Solar Empowerment for BIPOC Faith Communities

The Watts-Willowbrook Church of Christ, known as “The Brook,” serves as a cornerstone for over 100 members from Compton, Watts, and Willowbrook in California. This project, developed in collaboration with RE-volv and California Interfaith Power & Light, celebrated the installation of a new 12-kW rooftop solar system designed to reduce energy costs, promote sustainability, and inspire other BIPOC-led Houses of Worship to adopt eco-friendly practices.
For this project, I was responsible for story development, video editing, color management, and soundtrack curation. My work included animating lower thirds and titles, applying color correction, and creating a cohesive visual flow to underscore The Brook’s role as a leader in environmental stewardship. Although the footage was captured by another team, I handled post-production to engage viewers and elevate The Brook’s story.
The final video was highlighted at a White House event for faith leaders and gained significant recognition in the local community, inspiring additional congregations to consider solar energy. This project emphasized the impact of videography in showcasing community resilience and environmental change, bringing visibility to sustainable practices within BIPOC faith communities.
